We are Truus Wittkamp and Roel Wittkamp, (mother and son), together we have been involved in the world of dogs for over 30 years. These days I (Roel) do most of the competition and handling of the dogs due to Truus having various health issues. Wiglo Kennels was first established by my parents, in Kerang a small town in Central Victoria near Bendigo. The name "WIGLO" is the result of mixing my father's surname (Wittkamp) and my mother's maiden name (Gloudie).

Our first dog was a Boxer named "PAX" which we showed for a short while. At his first show he won Best Local Dog, which compared to today's standards is not much but it was enough to get our family hooked in showing. Around that time a work assosiate of my Mother's was having a litter of Sheltie pups. So when she had pups my mother bought my father a pup for his Christmas present. This was the beginning of a long association with Shelties. This first Sheltie... Valhal Sonja ... was not a particularly good looking Sheltie but proved herself invaluable in the whelping box. From her first litter of pups, four of the five pups went on to become Australian Champions.

In 1969 We moved to Brisbane and bought a house on three acres, where we would have more room for the dogs, with the intention of starting a Breeding Kennels. We continued to breed our Shelties and produced some very successful stock, winning best of breeds and better at many large and prominent shows including the Brisbane Royal. In 1986 we made the long move to Far North Queensland and bought a large property of 130 acres in Ravenshoe on the Atherton Tablelands where we could continue to breed our dogs.

It was not until 1992 that we obtained our first Border Collie, and that was only after doing a fair bit of background study into the Breed. My first Border Collie, Maplevale Silhoette CDX TDX ET, was originally purchased with the intention of showing in mind. Unfortunately she didn't really turn out to be the show dog I had hoped for. I then turned to obedience, and as you can see from her titles, this was an outstanding success. She still holds the Tableland Dog Obedience Club's record for the highest qualified dog and I guess for this reason I became hooked on obedience and have now all but given up with the show ring. Since then we have trialled three Shelties who have gained CD titles and have bred several Border Collies who have gone on to do well in obedience.

In 2005, we bought a new property in Milla Milla and relocated there with the dogs. We are still building and sorting the place out but the dogs enjoy it here! This move, brought us a little closer to towns on the Atherton Tablelands which makes life a little easier and involves less travel!!!
